Admixture of classic shamanism and the work of anthropologist and author Michael Harner, Ph.D., founder and director of The Foundation for Shamanic Studies, in Mill Valley, California. The purported thrust of HMSC is problem-solving by divination. Supposedly, practitioners (“ordinary reality HMSC counselors”) serve merely as facilitators, and sacred teachers in “nonordinary reality” are the “real” counselors.
